Case Study: Stannah passenger lifts deliver perfect people-access in Northumberland’s Coble Quay apartment development
Four Stannah passenger lifts are delivering perfect people-access in Coble Quay, a brand new residential and retail development in Amble, a historic port at the mouth of the River Coquet, the southern gateway to Northumberland’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The lifts complement stair access in four apartments blocks (one to be completed), offering outstanding views over the harbour, marina and mediaeval Warkworth Castle.
Owing to the timber-frame construction, Stannah recommended use of their unique FX structure that reduces builder’s work requirements and loads imposed on the building. It also eradicates the risk of timber shrinkage damaging the lift and shaft. Ideal for a project requiring fast building times, the timber frames for each of the three built blocks were constructed in just over three weeks!
All structure mounted and carrying eight persons apiece, the lift quartet comprises three hydraulic-drive models and one traction-drive, each bringing access over five floors at a speed of .630 m/s.
Designed to complement the development’s light, airy aesthetic, the lifts are finished in brushed satin stainless steel with grey sparkle flooring, bubble ceilings, silver-grey car walls and silver half-height rear mirrors. The motor rooms are located separately, in cabinets next to the lift doors, making access and maintenance a breeze.
The passenger lifts were specified by Tony Pull, Project Manager at Coble Developments Limited:
“The Stannah passenger lifts were the ideal people-moving solution for our development, Coble Quay. They are a highly cost-effective combination of form and function, supported by an excellent aftercare service.”
The lifts offer a long, reliable life thanks to a comprehensive lift servicing plan, delivered by the North and North East England branch of Stannah Lift Services, part of a nationwide network providing comprehensive lift servicing and support.
