Case Study: Stannah's small footprint Piccolo lift supports big strides in human performance

A Stannah Piccolo 4-person vertical cabin platform lift has made a big impression in the brand new Human Performance, Exercise and Wellbeing Centre at Buckinghamshire New University in High Wycombe.

With its dinky footprint this supremely space efficient hydraulic lift is ideally suited to the low usage access needs of this state of the art, low rise building dedicated to cutting edge sports and exercise science.

Located in a small lobby close to the stairs, the Piccolo requires minimum headroom and pit depth, yet delivers access over two floors to people of all mobility levels – quickly, safely and reliably. Add to this its low power consumption and you have a high-performance passenger lift that is cost efficient to run.

Whilst ensuring that the premises owners meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010, the Piccolo also helps support the UK Government’s focus on sport, exercise and wellbeing and the fundamental part they play in healthier, happier lives.

This niche lift was specified by Scott Wells, Senior Building Surveyor and Project Manager at DHP, interdisciplinary design consultants based in Weybridge:

“The Piccolo fitted the project requirements for a disabled lift with a very shallow pit, to bring visitor access to the 1st floor physiotherapy clinic. Having used Stannah products on previous projects we had no qualms in using them again, and their technical sales engineer was extremely thorough in guiding us through the lift package, from options and choices to operation and emergency release.”

In keeping with its discreet profile, the lift sports a grey vinyl skin plate aesthetic, with a half height side wall mirror to maximise the cabin interior.

The automatic landing and car doors along with cabin control buttons make the lift easy to use and minimise corridor encroachment. The1100 x 1400 cabin is roomy enough to accommodate four passengers, or a wheelchair user and attendant.

Passenger safety is assured via the anti slip stud flooring, telephone and fire alarm shutdown.

Quick and easy to install with the minimum of builder’s work, the lift operates in a wall mounted shaft, at a reduced speed of .150 m/s.

As with all Stannah lift products, the Piccolo lift is covered by Stannah’s comprehensive lift servicing, with continued lift maintenance by the South Midlands and Home Counties branch of Stannah Lift Services, part of a nationwide network providing comprehensive lift servicing and support.
